GRAND MASTER ANDREW LEE
Andrew Lee, a master level black sash, has been involved with martial arts since 1972. Motivated by his early teachers, Master James Clark and his mentor, Master Willie Mcfall, Master Lee worked endless hours perfecting his art. As a result of his obsession with perfection, he was a top competitor in the Chicagoland area and a Tri-State Champion during the early and mid seventies 70s. His reputation for lightening fast and powerful kicks, flexibility and jumping ability is what is said to have made him unsurpassed when competing in forms, weapons and fighting. In 1988, Master Lee founded the Bei Shaolin Institute and dedicated himself to passing the art on to all interested students, regardless of age, innate athletic ability or skill level.
What made his school unique was his uncompromising position to teach the art in its pure, traditional form, his profound understanding of and insight into Chinese Kung Fu, as well as martial arts in general and, most importantly, his ability as a teacher to inspire and bring out the absolute best in all his students. In addition to teaching the art and bringing up local and national champions (Midwest Circuit, Kentucky Blue Grass and other nationally recognized tournaments), Master Lee has promoted over 40 students to instructor level. Bei Shaolin Institute has now spread to three states with affiliates in Marshall Town, Iowa; Chicago, Illinois and Memphis, Tennessee. Master Lee’s love of the art is demonstrated with his continued interest and personal training in all aspects of Chinese Martial Arts. His special interests are in self-defense, chin na, plum flower kung fu (he is a 17th generation under Master Wung Chen-Mao of Taipei, Taiwan), Shaolin, Tai Chi and Chi Gong/Nei Gong. As a testament to his ever improving skill in the Art, he was the Grand Champion in the Prairie State National Competition in 1994. This feat is even more impressive because he demonstrated tai chi against masters of various styles, which included karate, kung fu and wu shu competitors at a nationally rated Karate Tournament! Master Lee and his wife, Simu Jessica Lee, devote their time spreading and promoting traditional Chinese kung fu. Master Lee is also a founding member of the Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Coalition (TCMAC) and a member of The Kuo Shu Federation R.O.C.; both organizations are dedicated to preserving and spreading the interest in traditional Chinese Martial Arts.
